IPCO participated in a meeting of the International Oversight Working Group (IOWG), hosted by the Dutch Review Committee on the Intelligence and Security Services (CTIVD) in The Hague. The IOWG brings together international oversight bodies to share best practice and discuss current issues affecting each organisation.
Over two days, members discussed a range of topics including office automation and oversight in the "grey zone". The visit reinforced the value of international cooperation: while there is no legal basis for conducting joint oversight with supervisory authorities from other countries, regular contact allows oversight bodies to share developments in legislation, supervision, business processes and lessons learnt — strengthening oversight and supporting IPCO's mission of safeguarding the balance between national security and the protection of fundamental rights.
