The Office for Data Communications Authorisations (OCDA) recently assessed the one millionth application since it came into operation in March 2019.

OCDA considers applications for communications data, for use in the investigation of serious crime, on behalf of the Investigatory Powers Commissioner, Sir Brian Leveson.

The organisation was launched in 2018 in accordance with the Data Retention and Acquisition Regulations 2018, which amended the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 in line with EU law.

OCDA has two offices in Manchester and Birmingham with around 100 members of staff. Operations run from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week.
