IPCO’s Scope of Interest in AI

AI is rapidly changing the landscape of technology, law enforcement, security, and public services. At IPCO, our role is not just to monitor these changes, but to understand them and ensure AI is used responsibly, lawfully, and transparently.

IPCO is principally interested in understanding how the use of AI may increase the number of subjects of interest who can be investigated by public authorities and the how the use of AI may change any intended or collateral intrusion on a persons’ rights to privacy.

IPCO has officially defined its scope of interest in AI. This will form the basis of information gathering discussions during our inspections to enhance our understanding of how AI is being used by the authorities IPCO oversees.
